It depends on the finish your shopper wants, not on price. Linen and bamboo charcoal give the strongest, most matte lift — the volume choice for oily and combination skin. Rice fibre and ultra-soft suede are the gentler, sensitive-skin options with a more natural finish. Loose-powder sheets blot and blur in one step, so makeup survives the touch-up. Micro-porous film lifts fastest and stays invisible. Sheet size and gsm are both open specifications here. Typical finished sizes run 50×80 mm to 65×90 mm; both are fully customisable, as is gsm. For powder-coated sheets the load itself is the spec: our standing options are 8, 4 and 2 g/㎡, with the 8 g high-load built on a 16 g virgin linen base for a 24 GSM total. Heavier means more blur and more opacity; lighter means a sheerer, no-makeup finish. Tell us the finish you are targeting and we will recommend the load rather than make you guess.

Paper and film answer different shoppers. Paper sheets are the repeat-purchase consumable: low unit cost, huge material and print range, and the format the category has trained people to buy — which is why they carry volume programmes and subscription boxes. Oil-control film lifts faster, stays transparent on the skin and reads as premium, so it works as the up-sell SKU or the travel/pro line. Most of the brands we build ranges for launch paper first and add film as the second SKU. Both are made under one roof, so one purchase order covers them.

Count and format are where margin is won. Booklets of 50 or 100 sheets are the retail standard; pop-up dispensers and flip-top cases command a higher price and photograph better on shelf; mirror-and-puff sets turn a consumable into a gift-able kit; rolls suit refill and travel. Larger counts lower cost per sheet but flatten perceived value, so we usually recommend a two-tier range: a high-count value pack plus a compact premium case. They manage the cause rather than the symptom. Sebaceous filaments look darker and more obvious when the skin surface is oily, so controlling surface sebum through the day visibly reduces how much they show — but no cosmetic product removes them, and a pack that claims otherwise loses credibility fast. Blotting sheets are step one of a three-step pore routine; the other two are a gentle BHA/PHA pore pad and a hydrocolloid nose strip, both of which we also make. The concern traces to how a sheet is used more than to the sheet itself. Blotting works by capillary action: pressing lifts surface sebum into the fibre. Dragging the sheet sideways turns it into a dry wipe, and that is what disturbs makeup and moves sunscreen around. Two things follow for a brand. First, print the usage instruction on the pack — press and lift, do not rub — it costs nothing and pre-empts most negative reviews. Second, ask about substrate selectivity, not just absorbency: a fibre with strong oil affinity lifts sebum while leaving the skin's water content largely alone, whereas an indiscriminate substrate takes both and produces the tight, over-cleaned feeling behind the complaint. To be straight about the limit: pressing lifts far less sunscreen than wiping does, but it is not zero, and any brand claiming zero will be caught.

For raw absorbency, a tissue does lift oil — which is why 'a napkin works fine' is such a common response, and why a brand positioned only on 'absorbs oil' is competing with something free. The difference is everything else. A tissue is not sized or finished for facial use: it sheds lint, it has no oil-versus-water selectivity, and because it does not conform to a curved face the only way to use it is to wipe — which takes makeup with it. A blotting sheet is cut and finished to press and lift on contact, and is converted under cosmetic GMP rather than as a paper product. The case for the category is made on makeup survival, no lint and portability, not on absorbency alone.
